John Joseph Mayer, III, age 71, of Pine Bluff, died June 22, 2015. Born May 19, 1944 in Pine Bluff, he was a son of the late John Joseph Mayer, Jr. and Rosa Helen Chaloupka Mayer.
John received his early education in Pine Bluff, and worked at Illinois Tool Works as a young man. For 35 years, he was on active duty in the United States Navy until his retirement. John was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he had served as Junior Warden, vestry member, and usher.
Survivors include his son, Shawn Jay Mayer (Marcia); a grandson, Alex C. Mayer; and siblings, Joseph F. Mayer, Rosa M. Craig, Anthony J. Mayer, Regina M. Bunting (Gary), Rita Emerson (Preston) and Renee Mayer.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 27, 2015, 10 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Lorrie Slaymaker officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Veterans Section of Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South.
