Verna Williams


WHITE HALL -Verna Godwin Williams, 87 of White Hall, went home to heaven August 4, 2015. She was born August 6, 1927 in Hot Springs, Ark. She was the daughter of the late Jesse M. Godwin and Pearl Meeks Godwin.

She was preceded in death by husband Freeland Sims, whom she married in November 1947 and husband Roy V. Williams whom she married in 1975; three brothers, Morrilton “Buddy” Godwin, Gary Godwin and Harvey Godwin; and sister, Wilma Fisher Hatmaker.

She moved to Pine Bluff in 1953. She was employed by Ben Pearson Archery for 20 years. After retirement, she and husband Roy Williams, for enjoyment, continued to work for the Army Corps of Engineers at several State Parks.

She is survived by sons, Alvin Sims of Jefferson, Ark. and James Sims of Campbell, Texas; daughters, Retha Roberts of Alturas, Calif. and Sharron Payne of White Hall, Ark.; brother, Dwight Godwin of Avant, Ark. and sister, Juanita Ballew of Pearcy; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held from 6–8 p.m. Thursday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Ark. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Avant-Buckville Community Church with Brother David Holley officiating.

Burial will follow at Avant Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be J.J. Sims, Jerrime Sims, Christopher Sims, Chris Jones, Josh Back, and Jacob Sims. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Roberts, Jr. Gossett, and Robert Blocker.
