No Tobacco Run/Walk set
The community is invited to World No Tobacco Day Run/Walk at Saracen Landing beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Future Builders Inc. will present the event to promote wellness, raise awareness, and take steps toward a tobacco-free future, according to a news release.
The day will include a walk or run around Saracen Lake, refreshments, giveaways, activities, and wellness information. Local vendors will showcase community resources.
The theme is “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.”

Rotary to host Hooten’s
The Rotary Club of West Pine Bluff’s program will be Hooten’s Arkansas Football at 11:30 a.m. July 17 at Pine Bluff Country Club.
The luncheon will be presented by Barry Grooms of Hooten’s Arkansas Football, according to a news release.
“We are extending this invitation to representatives from all football programs in southeast Arkansas, so you will not only have the opportunity to hear comments from Arkansas’ premier football authority, you can also visit with coaches and key players from football programs in Southeast Arkansas — all in the same room at the same time. And eat well,” according to the release.

Locals in county offices at Boys State
Students were elected by their peers to county office Monday as part of the 84th annual session of Arkansas Boys State, where students build a mock government structure, including eight different mock counties each with their own county judge, county sheriff, and justices of the peace.
More than 600 of the state’s brightest young men are attending Arkansas Boys State, an immersive leadership and civic engagement experience sponsored by the American Legion. This summer’s 84th annual session runs May 25-30 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, according to a news release.
Area county officials include:
Shamar Browning of Pine Bluff was elected Justice of the Peace 1 in Gordon County.
Jordan Anderson of Pine Bluff was elected Justice of the Peace 7 in Sanders County.
Tonio Plummer of Dermott was elected as Justice of the Peace 5 for Qualls County.
Kelby Robertson of Warren was elected Justice of the Peace 3 in Carvell County.
Trevor Barnes of McGehee was elected County Judge in Gordon County.
Tripp Lanehart of Wilmar was elected Justice of the Peace 7 in Rooks County.
Nathan Skinner of Stuttgart was elected County Judge in Womack County.
“Being elected to county office is such a remarkable honor for these students because the counties are the cornerstone of the student identity at Arkansas Boys State,” said David Saterfield, director of instruction for the program.
These students join more than 600 students from throughout the state attending Arkansas Boys State at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
Students are mock citizens in eight different counties, 16 cities, and two political parties. On Tuesday, students will run for the House of Representatives and Senate and begin campaigning for statewide office. Details: arboysstate.org.

Mason Clemons of McGehee was elected City Council Position 2 in Gordon City.
Alex Scaife Jr. of Stuttgart was elected City Council Position 1 in Bush City.
Evan Emerson of McGehee was elected City Council Position 3 in Lovell City.
Hunter Endres of Stuttgart was elected Mayor in Sherwood City.

Chamber sets monthly luncheon
The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4 at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Business Incubator, 615 S. Main St.
The speakers will be Charles King and Courtney Kline of Southeast Arkansas College, according to the Chamber newsletter.

ACO plans dinner fundraiser
Arkansas Community Organizations will have a rib tip fundraiser dinner from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at 3712 W. 34th Ave. The menu is rib tips, potato salad, slice of bread, baked beans and a bottle of water for $15.
