Community members turned out to recognize the Jenkins Memorial Center Jaguars as they prepared to attend the state games recently.

“This past week, the Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce Redcoats were honored to take part in a very special celebration — a heartfelt send-off for the Jenkins Memorial Jaguars as they departed for the Special Olympics state games. It was a moment filled with pride, emotion, and overwhelming community spirit,” according to the Chamber newsletter.

Gathered in support of these athletes were several members of the Jefferson County sheriff’s office, who not only showed up in full support, but also accompanied the caravan in an escort with lights flashing.

“Their presence added an unforgettable touch to an already powerful send-off,” according to the newsletter. “The Jaguars left town in vans, cheered on by family, friends, and community leaders, with smiles, waves, and plenty of encouragement to carry them into competition.”

The 2025 Special Olympics Arkansas games were held May 22-24 at Harding University at Searcy, according to https://www.specialolympicsarkansas.org/

“The mission of Special Olympics Arkansas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community,” according to the website.
