Cabot man arrested on drug and gun charges

A traffic stop by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission officers Tuesday resulted in the arrest of a Cabot man on drug and weapons charges.

Randall Martin, 30, allegedly had a rifle, ammunition, marijuana and several different kinds of pills in his possession, Tri-County Drug Task Force Investigator Dennis Kendall said in a probable cause affidavit presented in district court Thursday.

According to the affidavit, the game and fish officers were patrolling on Lock and Dam No. 5 Road when they saw a white Toyota with a brake light out and stopped the vehicle. When they approached it, they smelled what they believed was marijuana and saw a rifle between the seats.

Martin, who was driving, was asked to step out of the vehicle, as was a female passenger. A warrants check indicated that there were two misdemeanor warrants for Martin, who was also driving on a suspended license and arrested.

Kendall reported in the affidavit that officers found a smoking pipe with what appeared to be burnt marijuana in it, a pill bottle containing suspected marijuana, another pill bottle containing white, blue and red pills, 10 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition and a .22-caliber rifle.

The records check also indicated that Martin was a convicted felon.

Martin allegedly said the marijuana and pills were his, and said he had the rifle in case he saw a snake while he and his girlfriend were out near the lock and dam.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Martin after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Martin.
