Bond set in alleged domestic battery

A $10,000 bond was set Thursday for a man who allegedly choked his pregnant girlfriend during an altercation Tuesday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Dentwone Gipson, 30, with second-degree domestic battery.

According to a probable cause affidavit from Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Roger Gray, the alleged victim said she and her boyfriend, Gipson, had gotten into an argument at Walmart and after leaving, said she was traveling north on Olive Street when the argument escalated. She then pulled onto the parking lot of Jack Roby Junior High School.

The woman said Gipson grabbed her around the neck and pulled her to the center console of the vehicle before letting her go.

Gray reported that the woman said she drove Gipson to a house in the 500 block of West 28th Avenue and while she was driving, he grabbed her around the neck for a second time before she stopped. Gipson also allegedly kicked out the passenger side window of her vehicle. She said she is seven months pregnant with Gipson’s child.

According to the affidavit, Gray was intoxicated when he was arrested and was not questioned until later. During questioning, he said he did not touch her and she did not touch him. He also allegedly said he hit the window of the vehicle with his hand when she was trying to run over him.

Gray reported in the affidavit that Gipson had previously been convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery on Aug. 12, 2015.

In addition to setting the bond, Bridgforth ordered Gipson to have no contact with the woman until the case is settled.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Gipson.
