Corps issues advisory for Arkansas River

The Army Corps of Engineers issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River. Recent rains across Oklahoma and Arkansas caused flows to rise.

During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft, according to a news release.

The advisory was issued Oct. 14. Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam at Fort Smith are about 75,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville are also 75,000 c.f.s. and rising. Flows at Murray Lock and Dam in Little Rock and downstream were expected to rise above 70,000 c.f.s.

More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer.
