Essie Oaks


DUMAS – Mrs. Essie Mae Oaks, 86 of Dumas, passed Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

Born August 8, 1928 in Galion, Louisiana (Morehouse Parish), she was a daughter of the late Tom Johnson and Ossie Holmes Croom. She was a member of Union Baptist M.B.C. in Dumas, and a home maker.

Survivors include one daugher, Geryl Lynn (Nancy) Walsh of Upper Marlboro, Md., one step-daughter, Iola L. Daniels of Oakland, Calif, three brothers, Julius Croom of Dumas, Matt Croom. Jr. of Berrien Center, Mich, Ben Richard Croom of Niles, Mich, four sisters, Icie Spencer of Oakland, Betty Wilson, of Kansas City, Mo, Edith Vassol of Dumas, Fessie Moore of Bloomingdale, Ill, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services ares scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Union Baptist M.B.C. in Dumas with Rev. Isom Cross, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Pickens by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas.

Visitation will be Friday at funeral home from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

The body will lie in repose at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.

The family will be at 211 South Cherry Street in Dumas.
