Younger Anderson arrested

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas coach Mike Anderson’s son, Michael Anderson Jr., was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Fayetteville early Sunday morning.

Anderson Jr., who is the video coordinator on his father’s staff at Arkansas, was pulled over after an officer spotted him driving erratically in a vehicle with expired tags at 3:43 a.m., according to a preliminary report. The report said Anderson Jr. was moving approximately 15 miles per hour and braking randomly and repeatedly.

Anderson Jr. had “terribly slurred speech, lacked coordinator and smelled of intoxicants.” A field sobriety test was performed on Anderson Jr. and, after failing, the 26-year-old was arrested and booked into the Washington County Detention Center.

Anderson addressed his son’s arrest Monday and said he was “disappointed.”

“All of our (staff) members are expected to make the right decision on and off the floor,” Anderson said of his son’s arrest Monday. “I expect that. Unfortunately some individuals don’t always make the right decision. But as a father, I will support Mike and hopefully help him learn from this situation.

“It will be addressed, the situation will be addressed through the established channels that we have here on our campus. Our sports administration will address that situation.”

Anderson said his son remained on staff as Arkansas prepares to play at Ole Miss on Wednesday night.

His arrest is not his first for driving while intoxicated, though. Anderson Jr. was convicted, according to the preliminary report, of driving while intoxicated in Feb. 2007. He was a member of Missouri’s basketball team while his father was in his first season as the Tigers’ coach.
