Donna Beth Bradshaw, 58, of 1502 McGehee St., White Hall, who was pulled unconscious from a neighbors’ private swimming pool Saturday afternoon, died Sunday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center Sunday, police said.
Patrolman Brent Bridges responded to a report of a possible drowning shortly after 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the residence of Carl and Debra Waits, 1101 McGehee St., and said he found two women attempting to pull Bradshaw from the shallow end of the in-ground pool.
The officer jumped into the pool and pulled Bradshaw from the water, but was unable to locate a pulse, according to his report. Bridges said he began to administer chest compressions in an attempt to revive the woman, but was unable to detect any vital signs.
Bridges was joined by Police Chief Richard Wingard, Sgt. Sandy Castleberry and Fire Marshal Bill Beadle, the latter an emergency medical technician, who continued resuscitation efforts until an ambulance arrived to transfer Bradshaw to JRMC.
Bridges said officers were unable to determine how long Bradshaw had been in the pool, but were told she could not swim. The Waits, who were not at home, had given Bradshaw permission to use the pool, according to Bridges’ report.
The accident victim was placed on life support after initial treatment at the hospital, Bridges wrote in his report, and admitted in critical condition. He said he checked on her condition late Sunday afternoon and was told by family members that her condition had not improved.
A native of Pine Bluff, Bradshaw was a White Hall High School graduate and had worked at Arkansas Mill Supply and the National Center for Toxicological Research.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel in Pine Bluff, with Brother Myron “Bud” Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery at Star City.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
