With a thick layer of ice covered by an estimated 8 to 10 inches of snow blanketing White Hall, most people spent the weekend indoors.
Jeff May, White Hall deputy mayor, reported that the city had a “mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow, but with no accumulation on trees, just on the ground.”
The National Weather Service reported low temperatures in the area, mostly in the teens and single digits.
Most people stayed off the roads, May said.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
“There were no power outages or water problems,” he said.
All White Hall School District schools were closed on Monday and Tuesday.
The schools are scheduled to be closed Wednesday due to the snow and the dangerously cold weather, according to the district’s Facebook post.
The closure applies to all campuses.
Because of the bottom layer of ice, May said about his road crews, “There wasn’t much to do but wait until the precipitation stopped falling and the sun came out.”
The road crews were out early Monday morning, starting on cleanup work, he said.
