The Arkansas Cancer Coalition recently awarded a $45,298 grant to Wells Bayou Youth Development Inc. of Gould.
Funds will be used to implement cancer control efforts that support the Arkansas Cancer Plan, according to a news release.
“Arkansas has many great resources to help reduce breast cancer mortality rates, so we are excited to continue our efforts with the Arkansas Delta Biobanking Program,” Ermer J. Preston, Wells Bayou Youth Development director, said in the release.
According to the release, the funding will help to reduce breast cancer mortality rates, educate the public and communities on the importance of biobanking, increase voluntary participation in biobanking in the future, and identify behavioral factors that may influence women’s willingness to donate their biospecimens.
“ACC is committed to reducing the human suffering and economic burden from cancer for the citizens of Arkansas,” Trena Mitchell, Arkansas Cancer Coalition executive director, said. “By partnering with academic and community-based organizations, we can multiply our efforts by reaching those in counties with the highest needs.”
