Weevils’ Rooke earns golf honor

University of Arkansas at Monticello junior Aidan Rooke of South Africa was named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar for the 2023-24 season.

According to a news release, to be eligible for the nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II or III, or NAIA, or receiving an associate’s degree in the last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. The athlete must also participate in at least 50% of the team’s competitive rounds; have a stroke average of less than 76 in Division I, 78 in Division II (UAM’s division), 79 in Division III, 78 in NAIA or 77 in NJCAA; and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. The recipient must be of high moral character and be in good standing at the institution, as well.

From Division II, 226 athletes representing 77 schools were named Cobalt All-Americans. Southwestern Oklahoma State University of the Great American Conference was among nine Division II schools with five or more Cobalt All-Americans.

Rooke was in his first season with the Boll Weevils in 2023-24.
