Wabbaseka man arrested after alleged assault

A Wabbaseka man was arrested Tuesday after he was identified as a suspect in an aggravated assault from the previous day.

Bruce Washington, 25, was taken into custody after a Wabbaseka officer saw him run into a house at 12:45 p.m.

Wabbaseka Police Chief DeShawn Bennett said in a probable cause affidavit that the officer knew Washington was a convicted felon and was a person of interest in an alleged assault that occurred Monday at a house in the 300 block of School Street.

In that incident, a woman said Washington pointed a gun at her and another woman after an argument over money. Washington also allegedly threatened to kill the two women.

Bennett said in the affidavit that when the officer saw Washington run into the house, he was able to talk him into coming out to talk, which he did. A 22-caliber handgun was found in a bucket on the porch of the house.

A $50,000 bond was set for Washington after Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney ruled prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault and with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
