An area vegetable production clinic is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, March 13, at the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service, 500 S. Idaho St.
Although aimed at commercial vegetable growers, local gardeners and Master Gardeners, the meeting is open to anyone interested in gardening, said Henry English, director of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Small Farm Program.
Topics include disease, weed and insect control in vegetables; and production information on growing cucumbers, watermelons, squash, cantaloupes, bell peppers, eggplant, sweet potatoes, southern peas and greens.
There will also be updates on microloans by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency.
Presenters will include Vanessa Moore, Farm Service Agency loan manager; English, and UAPB faculty members Sixte Ntamatungiro, assistant professor of agriculture; M. Jalaluddin, professor of agriculture-agronomy; and Yong Park, associate professor of agriculture-entomology.
The meeting will adjourn after a noon lunch.
