Two days after a historic win in Fayetteville, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff swept the SWAC’s weekly women’s basketball awards.
UAPB guard Zaay Green was named SWAC player of the week, and teammate Demeria Shephard was named impact player of the week.
This is Green’s third-straight player of the week selection and fourth overall. She has earned this award every week of this season but one so far. This is Shephard’s first weekly honor this season, but it’s the second-straight week a UAPB player has been named impact player of the week after Kalia Walker shared the honors last week.
It’s the first time this season UAPB has swept the weekly awards, and the achievement is well-deserved after the Lady Lions stunned Arkansas 74-70 on the road Sunday afternoon.
Green led UAPB with 21 points and nine rebounds in Fayetteville. She leads the SWAC in scoring, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio.
Shephard scored 12 points and collected six rebounds against the Razorbacks. She shot 4 of 9 from 3-point range, including a late dagger from the corner that made it a two-possession game, helping to clinch UAPB’s first win against a Power Five school in program history.
The duo also led UAPB in its 73-66 loss to North Texas earlier in the week. Green scored 18 points with seven rebounds, while Shephard scored 13.
