The Sheridan School District officially named Kevin Kelley its new head football coach during its normally scheduled school board meeting Monday night.

Kelley was the head coach at Pulaski Academy from 2003-20 and won nine state championships with the Bruins. He left in 2021 to take over as head coach at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., but left after one season. He has been out of coaching the past two years but will return next season to lead the Yellowjackets.

Kelley became known not only statewide, but nationally for his unique style. He rarely punts, choosing instead to go for it on fourth downs. He also tends to attempt onside kicks after scoring.

At Pulaski Academy, Kelley complied a 216-29-1 overall record while going 117-6 in conference games.

He replaces Tyler Turner at Sheridan, who left after one season to return to a school he coached previously, Goodpasture Christian School in Madison, Tenn.

Kelley will be the fourth Sheridan head coach in six years as the Yellowjackets seek a return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Sheridan came close to reaching the playoffs this season but missed out due to a 32-29 loss to El Dorado.
