UAPB Vesper Choir to perform at Lyon College Oct. 8

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir will perform in the annual Gospel Choir concert at Lyon College at Batesville Sunday, Oct. 8.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, the Vesper Choir will also present its 64th annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” with an orchestra.

Under the direction of Professor of Music Michael J. Bates, the internationally recognized ensemble is known for its diverse repertoire and performances, according to a news release.

Forty nine members of the Vesper Choir, alumni, faculty and staff traveled to Spain to represent Arkansas as part of the “American Celebration of Music in Spain” in March 2017.

In February 2016, the Vesper Choir performed as the featured choir with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in three performances of Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms.”

Other performances included a 2006 concert tour of four cities in Italy with two concerts in each city, a 2010 performance at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and a 2015 performance at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine at New York City.
