A starting defensive lineman is the latest University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football player to declare his intent to transfer in January.

Freshman defensive tackle Vaughn Highland announced Tuesday on social media he will transfer when the portal opens on Jan. 2.

The Pennsville, N.J., native was UAPB’s fifth-leading tackler this season with 38, second among defensive linemen. He tallied 4.5 tackles for loss, including half a sack, and forced a fumble.

Highland had a season-high six tackles in the finale against Alabama State along with a tackle for loss. He had five tackles with half a tackle for loss against both Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.

His season high in tackles for loss was 1.5 against Lincoln (Calif.). He had his half a sack and forced fumble in that game.

Highland is the second defensive lineman to date to publicly declare intent to transfer after backup Jaiden Crawford.

Offensive lineman Dylan Booker will also transfer. He made his announcement on Dec. 12. Booker has battled injuries throughout his career. He played in the first two games of the season against Texas Tech and Central Arkansas as a backup left tackle but was out the rest of the year.

UAPB is now up to 17 declared transfer portal losses. Players have until the portal closes on Jan. 16 to decide whether to transfer.
