Tom Manley and Ty Gatson have joined the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football coaching staff.
UAPB announced Friday that Manley has been named running backs coach and special teams coordinator and that Gatson is the new tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator.
Manley spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He led an offense that set 11 school records last season and coached Isiah Freeman, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association offensive player of the year as a sophomore, and HBCU all-American Malachi Langley. Freeman was named CIAA Rookie of the Week three times, made second-team all-CIAA and was the conference rookie of the year during Manley’s first season.
Running back Amir Gerald averaged 6.8 yards per carry last season and was a second-team all-CIAA performer under Manley.
Manley also coached at Western Connecticut State University and Plymouth (N.H.) State University. He was a four-year starter at what is now Vermont State University Castleton.
Gatson was a scouting assistant with the San Francisco 49ers the past two years. He assisted the front office and coaching staff with player acquisitions, transactions, advanced game plan scouting and evaluating potential college and free-agent prospects. Prior to San Francisco, he was a recruiting coordinator at the University of Minnesota, graduate assistant for the offensive line at the University of Texas at San Antonio, associate director of player personnel and graduate assistant at the University of Arkansas and offensive assistant at Southern Methodist University. He played at North Carolina Central University from 2013-16.
