The gap between the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s golf team and conference leader Florida A&M grew on Tuesday.
UAPB trailed FAMU by 14 strokes following the second of three rounds at the SWAC Men’s Golf Championship at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Ala.
FAMU matched its day one performance by shooting 6-over par in Tuesday’s second round and sat at 12-over through two rounds. UAPB gave up ground by shooting 15-over, four strokes worse than Monday. The Golden Lions’ two-day total of 26-over is enough to keep UAPB in second place with one round remaining.
Prairie View A&M was the biggest mover on day two, turning in a 10-over and rocketing from sixth to third with a two-day score of 33-over.
Texas Southern dropped to fourth, Alabama A&M to fifth and Southern to sixth. Alabama State remains in last place at 67-over.

UAPB’s leader, Jose Berenguel, remained in a tie for fifth after shooting 3-over in round two. He enters the final round one stroke behind the individual leaders. Four players, including FAMU golfers Miguel Ilas and Sascha Robinson, finished the second round tied for first at 2-over.
Timur Alalin sat tied for seventh after Tuesday’s action at 4-over, an improvement of five places. Juan Melida dropped five spots to 14th. Jules De Reu moved up eight spots into a tie for 20th, while Jonathan Baumann fell eight spots into a tie for 23rd.
UAPB has won the past two SWAC championships. FAMU, which joined the conference in 2021, is looking for its first SWAC title.
