Bailey Harris totaled 25 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes Monday in the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s 91-76 women’s basketball win over Mission University at Steelman Fieldhouse.
Kennedee Shelton collected 13 rebounds and nearly hit another double-double for UAM (4-1) with 9 points. Alyssa Batton came off the bench to score 16 points, making 9 of 10 free throws, and Alindsey Long and Camille Pritchard each had 10 points.
UAM outrebounded Mission 46-28, collecting 15 offensive boards along the way. The Cotton Blossoms shot 31 for 70 (44.3%) from the floor, going 7 for 20 from the 3-point arc, and made 22 of 27 free throws. Harris and Pritchard combined to make 9 of 9 free throws.
Heaven Shockley scored 20 points, totaled eight rebounds and blocked three shots for Mission, the Springfield, Mo., school formerly known as Baptist Bible College. Josie Sullivan dropped in 15 points, Cassidy Hambelton 12 and Ireland Jones 10 for the Patriots (3-2).
UAM came from 25-18 down after one quarter to lead Mission 40-39 at the half. The Blossoms got their defense going after Mission shot 10 of 18 from the floor in the first 10 minutes and ultimately held the Patriots to 29 of 68 (42.6%), including 8 of 25 from the perimeter. The Patriots also made 10 of 15 free throws.
UAM will host Arkansas Baptist College in women’s action at 1 p.m. Saturday. The UAM men’s team took on Arkansas Baptist late Tuesday and will host Ecclesia College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
