FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas offensive tackle Jason Peacock has been suspended indefinitely by coach Bobby Petrino after being arrested on a felony theft of property charge from an incident that occurred March 5.
The 23-year-old Peacock was booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 7:30 p.m on Friday with bond set at $2,500. He was released at 12:32 a.m. Saturday after posting bail.
Petrino responded to the arrest in a statement Friday night.
“I am aware of the situation and he has been suspended indefinitely,” Petrino said through a spokesperson.
Peacock admitted to stealing a wallet from a female student’s purse in the Fine Arts Building on Arkansas’ campus on March 5, according to the UAPD arrest report. The wallet was reported stolen and later recovered in a men’s restroom in the building. The student’s Arkansas ID card and debit card remained missing.

Police checked the student’s online banking account, which showed a $1 preauthorization charge and $35.01 charge for gas at a local gas station. A review of the gas station’s video surveillance cameras showed a Lincoln Town Car registered to Peacock at the pump during the time the card was used.
Police questioned Peacock about the incident where he admitted to “taking the wallet, removing the items and using the credit cards,” according to the arrest report. Peacock also had the stolen items in his possession and turned them over to police.
Peacock’s arrest is a Class D felony because it involves theft of a credit or debit card, according to Arkansas Code 5-36-103. Peacock has a court date set for April 16.
The junior college transfer started the final nine games of the 2011 season for Arkansas, helping the Razorbacks reach the Cotton Bowl.
His arrest came a day after Arkansas held its final practice before being released for spring break. Petrino said Thursday he wanted players to do “everything right” and be “very safe” in the time off.
Peacock appeared to apologize shortly after being released from jail early Saturday, saying via Twitter he wanted to “tell the fans that I’m sorry for letn them down sorry for letn the team down and my family.”
