Two recommended for pardons by parole board

Two Jefferson County residents were among 22 people who were recommended for pardons Tuesday by the Arkansas Parole Board.

The board recommended that Michael S. Buck and Matthew W. Wells receive pardons from Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Buck was convicted in Jefferson County and Marion County of grand larceny, while Wells was convicted of second-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree domestic battery, also in Jefferson County.

The application of a third person from Jefferson County, Starkensha Holmes, was determined to be without merit by the board. Holmes had previously been convicted of two counts of shoplifting, disorderly conduct, failure to appear for trial and harassing.

The parole board also turned down an application to commute the sentence of Earl Brooks, who was convicted as an an habitual offender of second-degree battery in Jefferson County and is serving a prison sentence. Brooks also had multiple convictions from Pulaski County.

All the recommendations will go to the governor, who will make the final decision.
