The top-seeded Maumelle boys junior high team had a big fourth quarter to avoid the upset against Sheridan on Monday at Watson Chapel High School during the River City Conference basketball tournament.
Sheridan had a 25-24 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Maumelle outscored Sheridan 24-2 in the final period for the 48-27 victory.
J.B. Minix led Maumelle with 18 points and Gary Burton followed with 14 points.
For Sheridan, Tyler Raney scored 11 points.
Maumelle advances to the semifinals on 8 p.m. Thursday at Watson Chapel High School and faces Watson Chapel.

Sylvan Hills 54, White Hall 31
Trajan Doss and Shawn Watkins each scored nine points to lead Sylvan Hills past White Hall 54-31 Monday.
J’Breun Steen scored 14 points for White Hall.
Sylvan Hills plays at 5 p.m. Thursday at Watson Chapel High School in the semifinals against Jacksonville.
Jacksonville 25, Central Arkansas Christian 18
Jacksonville, the third-ranked team in the tournament, beat Central Arkansas Christian 25-18 Monday.
Kerry Knight scored nine points for Jacksonville and Maurice Young added eight points.
Stephen Flanigan had five points for CAC.
Jacksonville plays at 5 p.m. Thursday at Watson Chapel High School in the semifinals against Sylvan Hills.

Sheridan 57, Jacksonville 24
Sheridan, the top-seed in the conference tournament, moved on to the semifinals with a 57-24 defeat of Jacksonville Monday.
Kadeshia Cooper led Sheridan with 16 points and Chandler Kelly chipped in 12 points.
For Jacksonville, Antrice McCoy scored a game-high 18 points.
Sheridan plays at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Watson Chapel High School against Watson Chapel.
The other semifinal pits Pulaksi Academy against Maumelle at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Watson Chapel.
