The Commercial is once again sponsoring the Christmas Card Fund to raise money to assist students in need in Jefferson County school districts. The final total for the 2018 Christmas Card Fund was tallied at $8,792.
Since 1987, The Commercial has sponsored the annual event that allows donors to make contributions. Over the years, the effort has raised more than $300,000 — all for the children. None of the money is kept for administrative costs at The Commercial.
Through the years, we’ve heard many stories about how the fund was used for items such as coats, shoes, school uniforms, eyeglasses and or even household items for children whose families were in need because of house fires or other unexpected issues.
Funds raised are divided between the Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel, Dollarway and White Hall school districts. When needs arise, the districts use the fund to help their students.
People may make donations of any size; however, if you give at least $1, your name will be printed on the Community Christmas Card, which is published every year at Christmas time. Individuals, families, area groups, as well as school children, have participated in the fundraiser each year.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
The deadline for the fundraiser this year is Wednesday, Dec. 18. Donations should be made to the Christmas Card Fund, care of the Pine Bluff Commercial, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, AR, 71611.
