Taylor throws no-hitter for Sheridan

MOUNTAIN HOME — Sheridan junior pitcher Ryan Taylor threw a no-hitter in the Yellowjackets’ 10-0 first-round victory over Little Rock Parkview in the 6A state baseball tournament Thursday.

Taylor threw 29 pitches in the first inning and walked two batters before he settled down and had a 1-2-3 inning in the next four frames. Taylor did not throw more than 11 pitches in any of the final four innings of the game and struck out eight batters.

“He was so nervous before he settled down,” Sheridan coach Mike Moore said. “He threw his fastball low in the zone and it is exciting to throw a no-hitter in the state tournament, no matter who you face.”

Sheridan was held to five hits in the game, but benefited from a number of walks and wild pitches, according to Moore. The Yellowjackets (24-6) broke open the game in the third inning with six runs.

Josh Miller went 2 for 2 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI.

Sheridan, the top seed from the South, plays at noon today against Marion or Texarkana at Twin Lakes Park.

Adam Graham went 2 for 3 and made the All-Tournament team for Pine Bluff. Paul DeWalt went 2 for 4.
