The SWAC on Wednesday announced University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff senior Caleb Snowden is the conference’s outdoor field athlete of the week.
Snowden set a personal and school high jump record with his leap of 7 feet, 5 inches (2.26 meters) March 27 in the 69th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
Not only was that jump good enough to win the event hosted by the University of Texas, but it leaves Snowden as the top-ranked high jumper in NCAA Division I. His jump was a half inch better than the previous best this season, which Texas A&M junior Carter Bajoit made on March 14.
Snowden, a native of Lehigh, Florida, is coming off an All-American finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
Some of Snowden’s teammates also had success in Austin.
The UAPB men’s 4×100-meter relay team also claimed first in Section B at the Texas Relays with a time of 40.89. The team of Dwight Henry, Jared Sylvester, Mohamed Soumare and Ross Walrond edged Belmont by 0.003 seconds.
