Stuttgart storm damage not tornado related, officials report

Straight-line winds were identified as the culprit responsible for damage at the Stuttgart Municipal Airport and surrounding areas during Wednesday afternoon’s thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

A damage survey team with the weather service in Little Rock said no evidence of a tornado was found when officials investigated minor damage to hangars at the airport as well as trees and power lines down in the area.

The NWS said that radar at the time of the thunderstorm in Arkansas County showed a bowing line of thunderstorms which it said is often associated with strong to damaging straight-line winds.

The NWS said that a brief, rain-wrapped funnel cloud formed but the funnel did not reach the ground.
