Shepherd’s Center of Pine Bluff will begin its Spring 2019 Session Wednesday, March 6, at Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 S. Olive St.
Shepherd’s Centers of America programs and services offer opportunities for older adults to take on new challenges, learn new skills, make new friends and serve others, according to https://www.shepherdcenters.org/.
Locally, Shepherd’s Center programs will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, March 6 to April 24, at Lakeside church. The one time registration fee is $10, according to a news release.
“It is that time of year again. Time to add a new interest/hobby to your life? Meet new friends and enjoy fellowship with old friends. A great way to spend a morning while learning something new, or enhancing your talents and skills. Open to all that love life,” a spokeswoman said.

Computer course – with Phil McBee, instructor — will be held Thursdays at Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative (ARESC), 912 W. Sixth Ave., from 9:30-11:30 a.m. beginning March 7.

Beginning Genealogy — Kenneth Ray, instructor.
Line Dancing – Mona Rhoden, instructor – One of the most popular classes.
Art Workshop – Pine Bluff Art Guild members will teach about watercolors, acrylics and others.
Knitting — Barbara Fry, instructor.
Crochet — Barbara Lambert, instructor.
Canasta – Nancy Paschal, instructor, teaches a relaxing card game.
Photography – Mike Adam teaches this favorite class including portrait, landscaping and digital photography.
“Bible class” — The Rev. Steve Wingo teaches this class from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Bird Watching – Delos McCauley, instructor. “Enjoy nature and learn with experts from the Audubon Society,” a spokeswoman said.
Play Mahjong — Alpha Hopkins, instructor.
Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving — Kenneth Hickman will teach people how to dress a loom, make a scarf and warp and weft manipulation through the use of pick up sticks. The class is limited to four.
“This and That” Classes — Different classes are offered each Wednesday and some classes may require a small fee for supplies, according to a spokeswoman.
These include crafts with various instructors from Extension Homemakers Clubs, Delta Nature Center, Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas and Charlotte Jackson.
