Retired federal employees set meeting

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Chapter 287 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Building, 211 W. Third Ave. Lunch will be available.

Dr. Allison C. Gill, Au.D, an audiologist at South Arkansas Hearing, will present the latest on hearing devices and testing, according to a news release.

Recently, Chapter 287 members participated with local AME churches in a food bank for federal employees furloughed by the government shutdown.

“The AME bishop requested that AME churches organize food bank services during the shutdown and food operations were coordinated by women’s programs and the food bank was held at St. John AME Church Jan. 23 and Jan. 30, 2019,” according to the release.

“Plans are underway for future distributions of food and staple items if another government shutdown is implemented. AME and members from Chapter 287 contributed a wide range of items from canned food and grocery coupons to diapers and toiletries,” according to the release.
