Searcy ends Sheridan’s season again

JACKSONVILLE — Sheridan collapsed in the seventh inning against Searcy and saw its season ended with a 5-4 loss to the defending champion on Friday in the Class 6A softball state tournament.

Sheridan had a 4-0 lead going into the seventh inning when Searcy scored all five of its runs. Searcy got three hits and benefitted from two errors.

Last year, Searcy beat Sheridan by one run in the semifinals in the state tournament.

Sidney Bonner took the loss for Sheridan (26-5) as she struck out two, gave up six hits and did not walk a batter.

Allison Stipes went 3 for 3 with three RBIs for Sheridan, which left seven batters on base.

Class 5A

Harrison 3, White Hall 0

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — White Hall was held to five shots on goal against Harrison’s stingy defense and was knocked out of the 5A state playoffs with a shutout defeat.

White Hall (16-4) had a strong defensive effort going after allowing a goal 5 minutes into the game. But Harrison connected on a header in the 47th minute and added a goal in the 77th.

“Man for man, I felt we were evenly matched, talent-wise,” White Hall coach Don Malone said. “We could not penetrate their defense. Harrison’s defense is hot.”

The Goblins will play Hot Springs Lakeside, which upset Batesville, today in the semifinals

Class 5A

Little Rock Christian 10, White Hall 0

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Little Rock Christian scored 30 seconds into the game and did not slow down in a 10-0 win over White Hall on Friday in the Class 5A quarterfinals.

Little Rock had a 7-0 by the end of the first half and White Hall (11-7) did not have a shot on goal.

Class 6A

Mountain Home 3, Sheridan 0

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Mountain Home broke a scoreless tie with a goal 30 seconds before halftime. It was all Mountain Home needed in a 3-0 win over Sheridan on Friday in the Class 6A quarterfinals.

Mountain Home added two goals in the second half as Sheridan (13-7-1) had eight shots on goal in the game.

Laura Clinton finished with eight saves for Sheridan and had 111 on the second. Wynn Welch scored 20 goals for Sheridan.
