Sarah Grimes, current scholarship recipient, was the speaker for the DuBocage Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association monthly meeting held recently at the Pine Bluff Country Club.
Scholarship Chairman Rana McClain, who also received an ABWA scholarship when she was in college from Bluff City Chapter, introduced Grimes. Grimes thanked the chapter for the scholarship and said how much she appreciated receiving it since she used it to buy her books. She attends the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and is majoring in elementary education. Sarah’s mother, Jeanie Grimes, attended the meeting with her.
McClain read a letter from Elizabeth Davenport, the other scholarship recipient, who was on vacation and unable to attend the meeting. Davenport also attends UALR majoring in computer systems engineering. Her scholarship was used to pay for her books too. She said she had learned to use her time between studying and socializing efficiently since being in college.
During the business meeting the officers for the upcoming year were installed — Donna Renfro, president; Joyce Ann Green, recording and corresponding secretary; Diane Wilson, treasurer. Mary Coburn was unable to attend and will be installed at the next meeting as vice president.
Several of the chapter’s member weren’t able to attend since the meeting had been changed to the second Tuesday in lieu of the first Tuesday, some were on vacation, some had relatives who were ill, some were ill themselves, but Tammy Hogue was on her honeymoon.
The Audit Committee was appointed consisting of Judy Conn, Ruth Morris and Hellen Kennedy. Other committee chairmen were announced — Mary Baxter and Allison Yaney, Ways and Means; and Marnelle Clement and Dewanna Walters, Hospitality. Thank you cards were read from Kay Faver and Mary Baxter. Patsy Stone reported on the Pine Bluff Community Patriotic Concert, where McClain and Clement sang in the choir.
Morris won the Dollars Pot and the birthday gift. Green and Deanna Smith won the door prizes.
