Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, which works with people with disabilities, is commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Thursday is the anniversary of the legislation which prohibits discrimination against disabled people.
“Goodwill commemorates the 22nd anniversary of the signing of the ADA by continuing to help our friends and neighbors with disabilities build their careers and improve their lives,” Brian Itzkowitz, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, said in a news release.
“This act serves as reminder that we all must look past a person’s disability and realize that everyone is capable of making a positive contribution to his or her community,” Itzkowitz said.
In fiscal 2012, Goodwill served more than 750 people with disabilities through its career services centers and programs such as Work Activity, which provides individualized support, counseling and training.
“Goodwill adapted the job to fit my needs,” said Frances Mablin, a former Goodwill participant, who is wheelchair-bound. “They changed my life by giving me a new outlook.”
