Sammie Lacy


Sammie May Cathcart Lacy, of Pine Bluff, who will be remembered for her kind heart and deep love for her family and friends, died Monday, December 21, 2015 at the age of 87.

Born January 28, 1928 at Calmer in Cleveland County, AR to the late James Porter May and Dessie Allred May, she lived most of her life in the Pine Bluff area and graduated from Pine Bluff High School.

Mrs. Lacy worked as private secretary for Mr. Ben Pearson for a number of years, and for the Social Security Administration for over 20 years.

She was a member of Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Arnold Cathcart and John Lacy; a son, Larry Cathcart; a brother, Willie Basil May; a sister, Ernestine May Clark; a half-brother, James Porter May, Jr.; and a half-sister Betty Wee May.

Survivors include her children, Faye Cathcart Dennis (Thomas) and Jesse Adrian Cathcart all of Pine Bluff, and Samuel Porter Cathcart of New Orleans, LA; a half-sister, Vickie Coleman (Freddie) of Pine Bluff; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other loving family members and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 24, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dale Terrell and also the loving and devoted staff of White Hall Nursing Home for their loving care and devotion during her time there.
