The Salvation Army, 501 E. 12th Ave., will open as a cooling station for people seeking shelter from the summer heat when the temperature reaches 100 degrees or more.
“The Salvation Army is committed to serving the needs of Southeast Arkansas 365 days a year,” Salvation Army Lt. Bradley Hargis, commanding officer, said in a news release.
“During the summer months we will provide comfort in the form of shade and water to those who would like to step inside from the heat. The primary concern of the Salvation Army is the health and safety of our local citizens. We will continually assess the weather on a daily basis,” Hargis said.
During excessive heat, the Salvation Army’s cooling station will be open between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Services will also be offered weekends.
