Regarding ‘Our Fair Share’ column

Editor, The Commercial:

Mr. (Darnell) Hawkins’ “Our Fair Share” may well be accurate in most respects. He’s an educated man and knows much more than I do.

What he doesn’t deal with, and as a result we don’t know if he realizes, I view as follows: Strictly my own opinion. I don’t live there and know just what I find in the papers.

1. The various boards and agencies controlling the money he feels was denied unfairly have a choice as to who gets it.

2. They are aware the City Council often acts like spoiled kids in a sandbox fight. Certain of them evidenced racism and obstructionism toward Ms. Hollingsworth for the same reason and agenda the white Republican Congress in almost all cases refused to cooperate with President Obama —- Racism!

3. The best mayor Pine Bluff has had in nearly 30 years was defeated by a person with no mayoral or councilman experience. No one with common sense would miss the reason for that. Or for Chief Hubanks’ reason for resigning —- he told you —- council persons with an agenda against him!

4. When the government of Pine Bluff and Jefferson County publicly comports itself as was documented and for no better reason than racism and private agendas, why risk taxpayers’ money on more of the same?

5. Mr. Trice’s building is still there and still falling on other folks’ property. With that considered, why bother with “Historic Preservation?”
