The ARTx3 Campus’ long-running singing and dancing production returns this week, and this time, it’s taking theatergoers to the movies.
“Razzle Dazzle: A Night at The Movies” opens at 7 p.m. Friday, with shows following at 7 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday, in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St. The production is sponsored by Simmons Bank.
Lindsey Collins directs, with co-director Joel Anderson, music director Faron Wilson, and choreographer Heather Bankhead.
“This year’s show is packed with songs that instantly transport you to some of the most unforgettable moments in film,” Collins said, in a news release. “One moment, you’re caught up in the rush of ‘Footloose’ and ‘Dirty Dancing,’ and the next you’re feeling every note of ‘I Will Always Love You’ or the soaring hope of ‘When You Believe.’ There’s excitement, nostalgia, and so much heart woven throughout the entire production. It’s a love letter to the music that defined so many great films.
“You’ll hear powerful and recognizable favorites like ‘I’ve Had the Time of My Life’ from ‘Dirty Dancing,’ ‘I Will Always Love You’ from ‘The Bodyguard,’ Don’t Rain on My Parade’ from ‘Funny Girl,’ ‘What A Feeling’ from ‘Flashdance,’ and so much more. It’s a mix that brings together soulful ballads, high-energy anthems, and everything in between,” Collins said.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
The cast includes Collins, ARTx3 Campus Executive Director Celeste Alexander, Monica Alexander, Ryan Allen, Joel Anderson, Isaiah T. Austin, Heather Bankhead, Katie Cotton, Bethany Gere, Jenna Gieringer, Angelica Glass, Hayley Moorehead, Erica Dierich Phillips, KC Rowland, Ashley Thompson, J. Tyler, Raymond Wallace, Donald Warren, Ava Weeks and Alex Williams.
The performances aren’t limited to singing.
“The dancing this year is as diverse as the music itself,” according to the release. “You’ll see everything from bold, cinematic choreography to softer, story-driven pieces. Some numbers are big and electrifying, others are more intimate and emotional — but every bit of it helps bring those iconic movie moments to life in a new way.”
The fast-paced show is a biennial fundraiser to support theater and educational programming.
“‘Razzle Dazzle’ supports the theater productions, classes, exhibitions, and outreach programs that make the ARTx3 Campus such a special place,” said Collins, who is the organization’s assistant director. “Every bit of it helps us continue creating spaces where people can connect, create, and be inspired.”
The event is more than a fundraiser.
“Razzle Dazzle has become something the whole ARTx3 community looks forward to,” Collins said. “It’s this incredible mix of music, dance, and creativity that brings people together for a night that’s all about joy. It’s not just a fundraiser — it’s a reminder of how much fun live performance can be and how much talent we have right here in Pine Bluff and across Southeast Arkansas.”
