The proposed ordinance sponsored by Alderman Steven Mays to require all city department heads to live in the city would hand tie the city in its choice of department heads.
This would mean that if there were a choice between a superior person who resides outside of the city vs. an inferior person who resides inside the city, you would have to pick the inferior person.
Just another nail. Common sense is to defeat this ordinance. If our aldermen are interested in the well-being of our city, they will vote against this ordinance. After all, what are they elected for?
