A Pine Bluff man who police say was shot in the leg during a gunfire exchange Thursday night escaped from Jefferson Regional Medical Center and has not yet been found.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating David McCoy Jr., 29. He is described as 5 feet, 11 inches and 150 pounds, and is wanted for possession of firearms by certain persons and fleeing.

The shootout occurred at about 9:43 p.m. at the Broadmoor Arms Apartments at 801 S. Wisconsin St., according to a news release from the Pine Bluff Police Department.

Officers reportedly found a bullet hole in the window of an apartment and spent shell casings in a landing area. Several other bullet holes were also found in a wall leading to an inside stairwell. Officers said the bullet holes appeared to come from inside the apartment.

The apartment owner and three males told police they were inside the apartment when someone began shooting from outside and then kicked in the front door. One of the males reportedly told an officer he returned fire from inside the apartment with an AR-15.

Upon receiving permission from the apartment owner to search for the weapon, several bullet holes were found in the ceiling and a wall facing the stairwell. Officers also found one of the males had been shot in the leg.

Another officer made contact with the resident in the apartment next door and found a bullet hole in the wall by his living room. His TV set also had a bullet hole in it.
