An investigation into a Wednesday night shooting in Pine Bluff has led the victim to being charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons and another man jailed.
Police say the man was injured in the 2000 block of West 29th Avenue. According to the Pine Bluff Police Department’s detective office, officers responded to the incident at about 8 p.m. and found Darren Brock, 34, near the intersection of West 28th Avenue and Cedar Street.
Brock was charged after a records check revealed he is a convicted felon, according to a news release.
Police say Brock indicated he was shot by a man later identified as Derrick Bryant, 42, during a dispute outside a residence near Stitch & Clean on West 30th Avenue. According to the release, officers observed multiple puncture wounds on Brock consistent with birdshot injuries. The suspect reportedly used a sawed-off shotgun.
While investigating, officers discovered an unloaded 9mm handgun in Brock’s waistband. Detectives say he reportedly denied being armed but later claimed he took the weapon from Bryant during a struggle. Crime scene technicians collected evidence, including the handgun.
Bryant, who was not harmed, was transported to the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center, police public information specialist John Worthen said. Brock was treated for his injuries at Jefferson Regional.
