State Rep. Vivian Flowers has received the endorsement of the Pine Bluff Education Association in her bid to become Pine Bluff’s next mayor, according to information from the organization.
The PBEA is the Pine Bluff School District’s professional organization for teachers, education and support professionals, according to the group’s social media page.
“Education is vitally important to the forward movement of a people and a city,” a letter from the association stated. “In a time where public education in America and our state is seemingly under attack from certain politicians, we believe it is important that we have leadership in local, state and federal government that share the same values that we have as a union.”
The letter went on to say that the association believes that public education is a “cornerstone of our Republic” and that individuals are “strengthened when they work for the common good.”

“Over the course of your tenure in public service, you have proven to share these same values,” the letter stated. “We, the members of the Pine Bluff Education Association, do hereby fully endorse Representative Vivian Flowers for the office of Mayor of the City of Pine Bluff.”
Flowers is attempting to unseat incumbent Mayor Shirley Washington.
Early voting ends Monday, with election day on Tuesday.
