Parole board rejects four applications for sentence commutations

The Arkansas Parole Board on Wednesday rejected the applications of four people from Southeast Arkansas who are serving prison sentences and wanted the governor to commute their sentences.

The four were among 34 people convicted statewide who had applied for a sentence commutation.

Also, the board recommended that two people from Southeast Arkansas who have completed their sentences receive a pardon.

Those people who were seeking to have their sentences commuted, the county of conviction and charges were as follows:

* Larry Britt, Jefferson County, aggravated robbery and second-degree escape;

* Andre Hayes, Drew County, two counts aggravated robbery, burglary, theft of property and criminal attempt rape and as an habitual offender;

* Steven Johnson, Cleveland County, theft of property and two counts aggravated cruelty to animals;

* Jermyn Nowden, Jefferson County, residential burglary, theft of property, theft by receiving, possession of methamphetamine/cocaine with purpose to deliver and a probation revocation.

Those people who were recommended for pardons, the county of conviction and charges were as follows:

* Kenneth R. Jasper, Jefferson County, three counts burglary;

* Michael P. Sells, Arkansas County, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

All the recommendations will be sent to the governor, who will make the final decisions.
