One firefighter injured, ‘numerous’ saved from Piney Wood Apartments fire

“Numerous” civilians were rescued and saved from a fire at the Piney Wood Apartments at 2105 Woodlawn Drive on Tuesday evening.

One firefighter, however, was injured, according to a news release from Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services. The firefighter’s condition is not immediately known.

In all, 20 firefighters across six companies fought the blaze, which was contained to one apartment building with eight units. The structure sustained major damage and its contents have been ruled a major loss.

“Four of the eight individual units received heavy fire damage and four of the eight received minor smoke and water damage,” according to the news release.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters were dispatched to the Piney Wood Apartments, located just south of Golden Lion Stadium, at 6:39 p.m., and cleared the scene at 10:43 p.m. Flames were reportedly showing on a bottom-floor apartment and spreading to the top floor rapidly. Residents were reportedly trapped, prompting fire crews to initiate search-and-rescue operations and a “fast attack” of the fire.

Indicating how many were rescued and saved, the report stated “numerous.”

“Fire crews confirmed the building was clear of occupants and the fire was quickly extinguished,” according to the report. “The apartment complex consists of many individual apartment buildings.”

Pine Bluff Police, Entergy, EASI and the Red Cross also responded to the fire.
