Pine Bluff police said Monday that Chief Brenda Davis-Jones has yet to make a decision on whether disciplinary action will be taken against a school resource officer at Jack Robey Junior High who sprayed pepper spray into a school halfway in April.
Capt. Greg Shapiro said in an email Monday that Davis-Jones has not made a decision regarding the fate of Officer Anthony Brown.
According to Brown’s report, he sprayed a small amount of pepper spray on April 5 when he saw a large group of students loitering in the hallway and not moving to class as they were directed to do following the lunch period.
Brown’s supervisor, Sgt. Lynn Wright, said in a report that Brown did not follow department policy on the use of the pepper spray.
Three students were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center and several others went home after the incident.
Former Pine Bluff School District Superintendent Jerry Payne said Brown was allowed to return to the school after he talked to police officials and was told that any discipline would take place within the department.
