Evelyn Moorehead of Pine Bluff has announced her candidacy to become the prosecuting attorney for the 11th West Judicial Circuit, which includes Jefferson and Lincoln counties.

Addressing her church and political community in an open letter, Moorehead described herself as a “Watchman on Assignment” who aggressively pursues justice for everyone.

“As a proud native of Jefferson County, I hold deep appreciation for the beauty and richness of the Arkansas Delta — its fertile farmland, abundant fishing in creeks, streams and bayous, as well as the close-knit friendships and strong family values that define us,” Moorehead said. “From this community have risen pioneers and leaders such as John Miller Howard (founder of AM&N Art Department), Willie K. Hocker, Representative Samuel Woolfolk, Wiley Branton (attorney), W. Harold Flowers, and Carl Redus. Our region has also produced notable figures like Wyatt C. Thomas, an esteemed newspaper man, State Legislator, and judge; and Smokie Norful.

“Pine Bluff is like a butterfly that has retreated back into the cocoon, yet with the potential to re-emerge into a vibrant flourishing garden — one that nourishes both the state and our nation once again. My desire is to scale back the tarnish, corroding this jewel in the Delta, through the office of the prosecuting attorney for Jefferson and Lincoln counties. As the watchman to pursue justice aggressively for everybody. Because when crime is punished, the conscience of the people is redeemed. That is how the tarnish of sin is removed and the violence silenced.”

Moorehead said her goal is to build a coalition of service-minded citizens ready to fight for “meaningful change” for both counties.

“For the future of our youth, safety, peace and ease of our seniors, please consider joining this coalition to bring change. Together we can create a community that offers hope for our youth, peace for our elderly, and prosperity for ALL!!!” Moorehead said.

The nonpartisan filing period for the March 3, 2026 election for prosecuting attorney begins Nov. 3 and ends Nov. 11.
