Monticello choir to perform with Arkansas Symphony Orchestra

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello Concert Choir will join with college and university choirs from around the state and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at 8 p.m. Feb. 25 and 3 p.m. Feb. 26 in Little Rock’s Robinson Center Music Hall.

This performance is part of the Arkansas Symphony’s concert season and will feature the full orchestra, a choir of 400 and four professional soloists. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor was completed in 1824 and is Beethoven’s final complete symphony. The words sung during the final movement are taken from “Ode to Joy,” a poem written by Friedrich Schiller.

Also on the program is Arnold Schoenberg’s “A Survivor From Warsaw”, featuring narrator George Takei-Sulu on the Star Trek television series.

Tickets range from $14 to $52 and may be purchased online at www.arkansassymphony.org or by calling the Robinson Center box office at 501-666-1761.
