LITTLE ROCK — First Lady Michelle Obama will visit Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville next week as part of a tour celebrating the second anniversary of her “Let’s Move!” initiative targeting childhood obesity, the White House said Friday.
The visit is set for 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Michelle Obama’s most recent appearance in Arkansas was as commencement speaker at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in May 2010.
President Barack Obama has not visited Arkansas since being elected president in 2008. He attended a rally for Democratic candidates in Little Rock in October 2006.
The Arkansas air base is part of a pilot program aimed at enhancing the quality, variety and availability of food at military bases. The first lady will make an announcement Thursday about the program, the White House said.
The three-day tour also will include stops in Iowa, Texas and Florida.
