GRADY – Life for Maxcie Thomas, Jr., began on October 22,1933 in Grady, Ark., to the late Maxcie Sr., and Mrs. Beatrice Holmes Thomas.
He received his early education from the Grady Public Schools, and furthered his education at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
He served two terms on the Lincoln County Quorum Court.
He served 26 years on the Grady School Board and of those years, 20 were served as president of the school board.
He worked six and a half years for the department of corrections, Cummings Unit. His rank was captain. He was a self-employed farmer until his health failed.
He was a faithful member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for 70 years and of approximately 30 years he served as chairman of the deacon board. He was also the Sunday School Superintendent.
He was united in holy matrimony to Martha White Thomas and to this union, seven children were born.
Maxcie, Jr., is survived by Sharon, Robert (Gail), MaxcieIII(Samella), Michael Rene(Debra), Phillip(Candace), Doyle(Linda), and Lando(Yolando); a grandson, Telly Graywho was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas; two brothers, Lindbergh(Bobbie), and Emmett(Arjetta); 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four god-great grandchildren; a special nephew Michael White(Linda).
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Reverend Harold Shirlee, officiating. Interment will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, with services entrusted to the P.K. Miller Mortuary. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the mortuary, on Friday. Mr. Thomas will lie in repose at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday.
