A 78-year-old man has died from injuries resulting from a Friday morning fire at a residence in eastern Pine Bluff, according to the city’s Fire & Emergency Services Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 1501 S. Nebraska St. at 4:38 a.m., according to a news release. Six minutes later, emergency responders saw that the residence was “fully involved with fire, smoke and flames coming from the roof.”
A resident on scene told fire crews one individual was still inside the building, according to the fire report. Firefighters conducted a search-and-rescue operation and located a victim in a rear bedroom who was found to have succumbed to injuries related to the fire.
The fire department notified the Jefferson County coroner’s office of the findings. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation, the department reported.
The residence and its contents have been ruled a total loss. Pine Bluff Police, Entergy and the coroner’s office also responded to the scene. Twelve firefighters from four companies responded to the fire, clearing the scene at 8:33 a.m.
